Freshwater Pearls come naturally in cream, off white, pink, mauve, and lavender, but never in the Tahitian or Golden South Sea Pearl color range. When encountering the word "genuine" beware! The Jewelers Vigilance Committee, and other American consumer groups, recognize the word genuine only when it applies to naturally formed pearls: pearls found in shells without human intervention. In the US, they can't legally use the word pearl, except when the word "imitation" is used in conjunction. Pearl is only used for the actual pearl that was harvested from and oyster; like Freshwater, Akoya or South Sea Cultured Pearls.
