Vintage Gem LANDER BLUE TURQUOISE Necklace 19.75"L and Earring Set 1.25"h X 1w FOR PIERCED EARS (High to Gem Grade); Original 1970s Sterling Silver Settings; c. The jewelry set was made in the 1970s by a Navajo craftsman using what's now considered the rarest and most highly sought-after turquoise, Lander Blue. I believe there was only 110lbs ever excavated.
The turquoise cabs are set in their original sterling silver jewelry settings and have never been removed from their original settings for inspection or otherwise; as collectors prefer. Included in the set are three pieces - a very large necklace consisting of Five Large Oval Cabochons of Natural Lander Blue Turquoise (about 82 carats) set in its original fancy handmade Sterling Silver bench bead necklace with hook and eye closure and Two Matching Lander Blue Turquoise and Sterling Silver Earrings (about 28 carats) for a total of about 110 Carats per a jeweler I showed it to. I have sent pictures of the necklace to a number of people who are knowledgeable about this rare turquoise mine out west who all concur it is Lander Blue Turquoise. "The primary value is the turquoise itself, " However, the idea of the turquoise still being set in its original vintage sterling silver bench bead necklace and Earring settings adds to the history. I have a heavy five stone High to Gem Grade Blue Lander Turquoise Sterling Silver Bench Bead Necklace [about 6.27oztw] with Two Matching Blue Lander Turquoise Earrings [about 1.01oztw]. The total weight between the necklace and earrings is about 7.28oztw; dark blue turquoise, dark black and iridescent matrix. Estimated without taking the stones out of the settings by a local Appraiser to be about 110 Carats Total Weight between the Necklace and Earrings. FIVE STONE LANDER BLUE BENCH BEAD "PENDANT NECKLACE" DESCRIPTION: (SEE PICTURES). The necklace has five Very large high to gem grade oval lander blue turquoise stones measuring AS FOLLOWS. Sterling Silver Settings: four Oval at 1.5" L x 1 1/8" W x just under. 25" Deep with a larger Oval Center Setting at 1.75" L x 1.25 W x just under. 25 Deep (micro-sawtooth bezels; shadowbox setting with inset rope around the perimeter in each stone). Four of the stones measure circa 1 1/8 L x. 75" W x 25" D (about 16 carats each). Fifth Center Stone measures circa 1.25 L x. 25 D (about 18 carats). Necklace is not signed; c. Over the years I have only collected Native American Jewelry based on the value, grade, and rarity of the stone or stones, preferring jewelry with unique character, along with great craftsmanship. In other words, jewelry that is not only beautiful, but a great investment. As collectors of old pawn natural turquoise jewelry are discovering, it is becoming more difficult to acquire jewelry of this size and natural caliber. Most of the turquoise mines are now depleted and closed and less and less fine quality old pawn turquoise jewelry is coming to the open market; except through old stock and personal collections.
